The RETURNED & SERVICES LEAGUE of AUSTRALIA

WODEN VALLEY SUB-BRANCH Inc.

POSITIONS VACANT

Hospital Visitors

We have an urgent need for more hospital visitors.

Volunteers visit The Canberra Hospital, John James Memorial Hospital and the National Capital Private Hospital each Thursday morning. Visits usually last about two hours.

Volunteers are rostered to visit a hospital on Thursdays for one month each six months (for example, in February and August).  Visitors are usually organised into teams of two or three.

Regrettably the number of our volunteer visitors has declined, placing a strain on our remaining volunteers.

Visiting our incapacitated Veterans is a very rewarding and worthwhile exercise and is one of our Sub Branch core responsibilities.

If you are able to provide a couple of hours of your time each week for a month (on a flexible rostered basis), then it would be greatly appreciated.

Volunteers need not be Sub Branch members or veterans, as long as you are willing to help.

Further information can be obtained from Brian Alabaster on 62816448; or email paulbria@tadaust.org.au

The visits program typifies our slogan of “mates looking after mates”

Eddison Day Club

The Eddison Day Club is a community based weekly program for older people in the community within the Woden-Tuggeranong area. Its membership comprises veterans of the Defence Force, their widows and other members of the community.

The Club is sponsored by the Woden Valley Returned Services League Sub-Branch and is supported by the Australian Government  Department of Veterans' Affairs.

The Club meets each Friday throughout the year, except when public holidays occur on a Friday, at the Irish Club, Parkinson Street, Weston from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm.  We have a regular attendance of about  50  members with a valuable core of volunteers supporting the Club's activities.

Our program comprises gentle exercises, some quizzes and mentally stimulating activities, entertainment and speakers of community interest, and leisure activities, and ,of course, lunch.

The age range of the group is about 65 to 94, but all members are mentally alert and greatly enjoy the range of activities we arrange for them each Friday.

We welcome new members and volunteers.

Please contact the Day Club Coordinator, Reg Gillard, either by email regillard@optusnet.com.au, or by phone on 6231 0571 for further information.
